Women are the most important and fundamental members of the family and society. Different civilizations and societies annulled the rights of women and made them a victim of cruelty. Islam asked its followers to fulfil the rights of women and to treat them nicely. While commanding good behavior towards women in the Holy Quran,
Allah Almighty said:
وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُونِ
Translation:
''And live with them in the recognized manner.'' (Surah An-Nisa: 19)
The sayings of the Holy Prophet and his Sirat-e-Taiba enlightens the importance of women. The Holy Prophet (s) emphasized good behavior and fair treatment towards women.
Hazrat Ayesha said : The Messenger of Allah said,
''The best among you are those who treat their wives well, and I am the best among you who treat my family members well." (Jami at-Tirmidhi: 3895)
In a blessed Hadith, the Holy Prophet (s) gave the good news of being with him in Paradise to a person who brings up his daughters well.
Allah's Messenger said:
''He who brought up two daughters until they became adults, then the Messenger of Allah (s) said while joining his fingers that he and I will be close like this on the Day of Resurrection.'' (Sahih Muslim: 6695)
The Holy Prophet said that raising a daughter is the cause of entering paradise and said:
''He who has a daughter and does not bury her alive, is not disrespectful to her, nor he gives priority to his son over her. Allah will enter him into Paradise in return. ''(Sunan Abi- Dawood: 5146) .
The Holy Prophet gave the women such honor that her position and status became clear to everyone until the Day of Resurrection. Hazrat Ayesha (R.A) narrates that when Hazrat Fatimah used to come to see the Prophet, the Holy Prophet would stand up to greet her, hold her hand, and kiss her forehead and make her sit in his own place. (Shu'ab al-Iman: 8927)
The Holy Prophet declared heaven is in the mother's feet. On one occasion, He (s) said:
''Make it necessary to serve your mother because heaven lies in her feet.'' (Sunan Nasa'i: 3106)
When Hazrat Halimah Saadia (R.A) , the foster mother of the Holy Prophet stood up, spread his sheet for her and kept , came to meet him talking with her for a long time. Allah Almighty has given the ability to do righteous deeds to men and women. There is a little difference in the scope of actions. If a man goes to the battlefield and do Jihad, then a woman can bring up her sons nicely and can make them Mujahid. Allah Almighty has placed the reward for women in work according to their mood. Women in the era of Prophethood rendered different services in different fields of life.
Once, the women asked the Holy Prophet (s) that men have excelled us because they sit more in your company and take benefits out of it. They have surpassed us. They requested the Holy Prophet to assign a day for their training. The Holy Prophet promised them one day. On that day, the Holy Prophet used to meet women and teach them. According to the teachings of Islam, it is quite obvious that we have to respect women. We should avoid calling them bad names, avoid staring them, making fun, rushing outside women's educational institutions and sitting in their way. Avoid wearing short dresses in public places and respect working women because no society can prosper without respect for women.
